Scuds and Shrimp
Not insects, but small crustaceans, scuds can be a main food source for trout. Never hatching into a “dry fly form”, but growing very quickly, these crustaceans can give trout a constant meal year round. High in protein and fat, if there is a large population of scuds you will find fat, healthy trout. Scuds can be found in rivers and lakes, from olive colors to pink. Sizes can range from # 14-20.
