This is one of the first patterns designed specifically for Rio Grande Cichlids.
Native to south Texas and present in a few other areas, these fish are maddening to fish for. They have very small mouths and a proclivity to pick up flies and move them, without actually eating them. It is very important for these flies to have a buggy nature with a good bit of movement, which has translated very well to other species like bass, panfish, carp and trout. Try fishing it as a dropper on your next coldwater nymph rig - you might be surprised.
