"Similar to the Surefire Caddis, the Surefire Drake came from wanting a very natural looking imitation that was heavy and would drop through the water column quickly.
I chose to not include typical styled legs on this pattern to get that desired effect and allow the CDC collar and abdomen dubbing to fulfill that role.
The fly's quill body and segmented wing case do a great job at imitating naturals, and the hot spot collar has proven to be an effective trigger.
It does well as a point fly on a tightline rig or as a dropper below a big foam bug and it has even proven effective when trailed behind a dead drifted streamer, but I didn’t tell you that."
