An unusually harsh (for Nashville) snowstorm had me housebound, dreaming of summer on the Henry’s Fork and large wild rainbows sipping tiny ants in and around The Harriman Ranch.
The Red-Ass Ant was born from those daydreams and three straight days at the vise. It is effective as a traditional searcher wet fly, swung down and across current to illicit instinctual, aggressive wet fly eats or as a drowned ant nymph, particularly deadly below a foam hopper.
