Zack has always had a passion for the sport of fly fishing and tying flies and turned his passion into a career by entering the fly-fishing industry while still in high school. As he finished high school and through the first years of college Zack worked retail part time for several years in a local fly shop, as well as teaching fly-fishing schools and fly-tying classes. During that same time, he ran his own commercial fly-tying business.
In 2007 Zack joined The Fly Shop, where he is now currently the buyer and Retail Manager for the store. He has designed around two dozen patterns that are tied by Umpqua commercially, and his Stillwater Patterns are considered staples for lakes. Zack and his flies have been featured in fly-fishing publications in the United States and abroad, as well as two DVD's featuring Zack tying some of his proven patterns. He has also written for several fly-fishing and tying websites. Around Northern California, Southern Oregon, and Nevada Zack has become known to be one of the top Stillwater Guru's. In his spare time Zack will be found fishing Stillwaters for massive trout, Carp fishing throughout the spring and summer, and even targeting Steelhead in the fall and winter. Besides his fly-fishing accomplishments Zack also has a Business Degree from Chico State University.
