"The black velvet came about when Riley Cotter and I were competing together at one of our national championships.
I had some pheasant tails that I dyed with a color called black velvet for a certain chironomid pattern and we put our heads together for this jig fly back around 2009.
This fly is still one of my go to patterns in competitions and whenever I’m fishing."
