I am a fly-tying obsessed, fly-fishing crazed wife, mother and friend. I must admit that my introduction into the industry was somewhat unusual. I started tying and fly fishing with my family in 2020 thanks, in large part, to our 2 very fishy sons who wanted to learn to tie flies. They asked for a vise and feathers for Christmas and before we knew what happened I was in over my head with books, feathers, materials, YouTube channels, and a steady stream of shipments from my favorite fly shops.
With the entire country still shut down, we took our passion (and RV) on the road and began implementing all we’d learned so far. I kept reading, learning, asking questions, making new friends, and taking my time on the water to pay attention and ask questions. I graduated to a whole new level of boy mom as my bug knowledge expanded to include pertinent entomology necessary for more success on the water.
What a debt of gratitude I owe personally to the many fly designers who took the time to field all my messages and calls to teach, critique, explain and help me to develop my skills at the vise through repetition and practice. This community is near and dear to my heart and my family. Fly fishing enriched our lives so deeply, and mine personally, that it has become the center of all our trips and travels. The more time we spend on the water, the more my curiosity wanders and the more my mind finds opportunities to create flies that will help my family, and I solve specific challenges on the water. It is a very rewarding pursuit and one that we intend to continue for the rest of forever.
