"The Barrick's Bubble fly concept originated while observing trout behavior on the Dream Stream of the South Platte River.
Despite prolific hatches of tricos, PMD’s, and BWO’s, trout often fed subsurface while insects fell to the surface.
To address this, I experimented with materials to mimic both emerging insects and drowned adults.
The first bubble fly was used successfully while guiding on the Dream Stream during a trico hatch.
It became my go-to pattern for various hatches, effective when nymphing or trailing behind a dry fly.
Its subtle illumination of the bubble attracts picky trout without deterring pressured fish, making it stand out amidst real insects.
The epoxied egg veil provides a durable shape maintaining profile while being tied on 2488H Tiemco hooks, preventing the smallest of flies from bending while fighting trophy sized trout."
