I designed my Stepchild Stone as an accurate imitation of the smaller species of stonefly nymphs, as well as the earlier developmental stages of the larger ones. The thin abdomen and double tungsten beads result in a rapid descent to the depth that you want to fish. The fly displays the always important elements of translucence and movement as well as high durability. The mottled beads create a more natural aesthetic for lower flow, clear water situations. Because it ranges from size 12 down to 16 it can be fished effectively on a nymph rig or even as a dropper.
