On the Fly

Umpqua continues to impress with its reentry into the packs, bags and vests market. In the January/February 2014 issue of American Angler magazine, Umpqua’s newly released Swiftwater Tech Vest has been awarded “Gear of the Year 2014” recognition in the Fly Lines and Accessories category.

“Umpqua Feather Merchants is well known for its commercial fly patterns. Now you can carry all those boxes of Umpqua flies in their new Swiftwater Vest.”
— Steve Walburn, Editor of American Angler and General Manager of the Morris Sporting Group

One of the two latest introductions to Umpqua’s already impressive and heralded line up, the Swiftwater Tech Vest (SRP $179.99) carries significant loads like no other vest. With 14 pockets strategically placed to provide easy access to all the items that anglers need (and then some!), the Swiftwater’s fully cushioned waist-belt and shoulder straps alleviate neck fatigue and forward creep created by even the heaviest of loads. Among the tech vest’s other well-thought out features are multiple coated web attachment loops/retractor stations, two molded fly rigging stations, tricot-lined hand pockets, stretch-mesh tippet/accessory pockets, a back D-ring for net attachment, and YKK zippers with loop primary pulls and sticky, micro-textured secondary pulls. Swiftwater’s mesh back and side panels, combined with its front buckle (located under the main zipper), allow anglers to stay cool during the hot summer months. To make it even more versatile, the Swiftwater Tech Vest integrates with Umpqua’s Surveyor 1100 Backpack to handle those extended, hard-core fishing days.

“When we first started looking at fishing vests, we were shocked that it wasn’t really a game about innovation — it was a contest to see who could put the most pockets on a vest. That approach simply wouldn’t work for us … we wanted a vest with everything you need and nothing you don’t. This recognition by American Angler, and all the other accolades, are a testament to our innovative approach and unique designs in this category.”
— Riley Cotter, Sales Manager, Umpqua Feather Merchants

American Angler’s Gear of the Year Column will be on newsstands at the end of December 2013.
